Tuesday Tidbits...

Jesus don't cry...you can rely on the tidbits...

* Happy Wilco day everyone!
Yup that's right Wilco, a top 5 LoB band, released their latest album today titled Wilco (The Album) I picked it up on my lunch break today but have yet to give it a listen. I do suggest that you guys all go pick it up, though.

* The reason I haven't listened to Wilco (The Album) is because I've been busy with what I like to call Wilco "The Experience." "The Experience" is when you listen to a band's entire catalogue chronologically from start to finish. I've done it with the Beatles, I've done it with My Morning Jacket and I decided I would do it with Wilco while working today. (There were talks of my old roommate Will making us undergo The Mars Volta Experience while driving to the beach for Spring Break senior year...but it didn't happen.) Anyway, it's fun to do this with a band you really enjoy because you can hear the growth of the band throughout the course of their records. I'm on "Either Way" from Wilco's previous release Sky Blue Sky. I'm hoping to have Wilco (The Album) ready to roll by the time I get home...I am a huge dork.

* So we went to "night racing" at Churchill Downs on Friday and I must say that I really had a good time. It was cool to see all the people out on a Friday night and they had $1 beers from 5-8 and 2$ beers for the rest of the night. In fact, my only complaint (besides the fact that I lost some money) was that the beer was too cheap. To put it nicely...I was over served. Saturday morning wasn't pretty.

* Has anyone seen Year One yet? There was so much buzz leading up to that movie and now that it's out I haven't heard much about it. I'd still like to see it, but I'd like someone's opinion on it as well. Anyone?

* So on Tuesdays during this summer you're supposed to get double points when you go to the Qdoba by my apartment. This seems like a great deal...except for the fact that last summer you got double points everyday and Dad and I went there for lunch today and just got regular points. Wag of the finger at you Qdoba...you're better then that.

* Did you guys take my advice and watch Run's House last night? There were two stellar episodes, including one about blogging. Seriously, watch it sometime...you won't be sorry.

* So I had a dream the other night that John Mayer called me. It was really weird because I don't really like John Mayer all that much. Anyway, this is how the conversation went down in my dream:

Me: Hello
John: Hey man, what's up? It's John.
Me: John who?
John: You know, John Mayer
Me: Oh, hey John.
John: Yeah man, I just wanted to call and tell you that I'm a huge fan of your blog.
Me: Thanks, I guess?
John: Yeah, I don't miss a post. I was thinking maybe we could grab a beer next time I'm in town?
Me: Yeah, whatever....just let me know.
John: Cool man, take care, I'll be in touch.
----Hang Up----
Me (to myself): Why in the world did John Mayer just call me and ask me out on a date?

It was really strange because even in my dream I was like, "Why is John Mayer calling me?" Why couldn't it be Jim James or Paul McCartney? I dunno, it was all kinda weird and lame, but I figured I'd share it with ya.

* You guys made plans for the 4th of July yet? I have! No, I won't be decorating a pontoon boat. No, no...I'm going to Charleston! Woo-hooo!

Have a great day! Go buy Wilco (The Album)

Well This Sucks...

Annnnd just like that...she's gone again.

I've had an extra pep in my step the last 6 weeks and it has had nothing to do with the warmer weather. No no, it was because Taylor was home for summer break (if you can even call it that).

However, now Taylor is on her way back to Charleston to begin her 2nd, and final (Hooray), year at the College of Charleston. When Taylor left last year I was sad, super sad...but I was in the midst of a transition myself, so my sadness could be cured a bit. Yeah the task of beginning my life as a college grad and moving out on my own would often distract me just enough to not be just totally down and miserable.

But now, she's leaving a again and even though this will be the last time she "moves" away....it sucks. I was hopeful that this time around wouldn't be as bad, but I was wrong.

The reason it sucks so badly is because, not too be cocky, that girl and I are pretty good together. In no way do I think we are the best couple in the world, we have our fights and disagreements....but she brings out a side in me that no one else can...a better and happier side. (I'd like to hope that I do the same for her). It's not that I'm completely miserable without her or that I lack the ability to enjoy my life without her...it's simply that I feel my best when she's around.

So yeah, I'm got a little mushy today on the blog. I didn't write this to get that "Oh, Brian's such a sweet guy" reaction. No no, I simply wrote it because the past 6 weeks have been a blast and it sucks that Taylor left today.

But, as pessimistic as I can be at times...I'm going to try and remain optimistic today. Because the fact that I miss her and the fact that I feel better when she's around probably means that I've got a pretty good thing going for me. So instead of feeling down, I'll try to just feel as upbeat as possible. Because I'd rather have a Taylor in Charleston then no Taylor at all.

Alright, you can go ahead and give a good, "Ah, how cute" I think it's ok.

10 Things I Like and Dislike These Days...

Haven't done this in a while...

*LIKE: The NBA Draft. Actually, overall, it was a pretty crappy draft. However, there was only one college that had two players drafted in the lottery last night. The school? The University of Louisville.
I'm excited for T-Will and Earl, I really do think they will both have stellar NBA careers!

* DISLIKE: Brandon Jennings. This is the kid who went to Europe to play for a year instead of playing college ball. I thought it was a stupid decision then and I still think it's a stupid decision. Here's an even worse decision...He decided that since his stock was dropping a bit, he wouldn't be present at the draft last night. He made the decision because he was afraid of getting embarrassed by sitting in the green room all by himself as other people got picked. However, he went 10th to the Bucks....then he decided he'd make an appearance, right after Earl got picked by the Suns. No joke, they announced Earl and then said, Oh yeah, Brandon Jennings is here now so lets interview him and stuff. Everyone was confused and it totally took away from Earl's spotlight. So congrats Brandon, you now suck in more ways then one.

* LIKE: Night Racing at Churchill Downs. They put in some lights at Churchill and after a lackluster performance last week the people at the Downs have promised not only more beer, but also cheaper beer! Needless to say I'm headed out there to blow some money tonight.

* DISLIKE: The Passing of Michael Jackson. I know he was a crazy/weirdo/creep show for the past decade or so, but that man changed music. I still love his earlier songs and his dance moves will forever make me jealous. It's a shame he was such a strange man and an even bigger shame he passed so soon.

* LIKE: The Fact that it's Friday. I really do love Fridays. Churchill tonight and catching up with some old friends tomorrow...should be a good weekend.

* DISLIKE: This Time of Year. After seeing T-Will and Earl highlights last night, I found myself in desperate need of UofL sports. I mean it's June and the only thing on the radar is what appears to be a miserable Football season...and even that is over two months away. Ugh!

* LIKE: Yim Yames. MMJ frontman Jim James is set to release a 6 song ep tribute to George Harrison. James, who is now going by "Yim Yames" recorded the songs several years back after Harrison's death, but has just recently decided to release them. Beatles + My Morning Jacket...well that's right up my alley.
* DISLIKE: Trivia. We once again failed to take home some Bearno's bucks last night. I will admit that I wasn't 100% focused because I was following the draft. I will also admit that some of the questions were total B.S. Hopefully we can get it going again next week.

* LIKE: I and Love and You. The Avett Brothers have made the title track from their new cd available on their website. I've only listened to it once, but I like what I hear. It's too bad they pushed the release date back a whole month.

* DISLIKE: Charleston, S.C. That bastard city will once again steal Taylor away from me on Monday. I don't want to talk about it too much because I want to enjoy my last few days with her...but let's just say that I am the exact opposite of happy.

Have a great weekend all!

Happy Birthday to the Blog!

That's right...this past Sunday the blog turned 1! I know it's hard to believe (and really sad) but I've been blogging about my life for an entire year...and you suckers have been reading about it...thanks!

Now, I know some days you come on here and look for some interesting little update or something and then you end up getting something stupid, but as I scrolled through the blog archives the past few days I realized something...

We've been through a lot together gang.

Just off the top of my head, here are some things, good and bad, that have happened this past year.

* Saying goodbye to Taylor as she moved off to Charleston
* Buying a new car (and then helping me name it)
* Losing not one but two battles with Becky
* Starting the Micro Mini Marathon
* Dealing with a hurricane and a ferocious ice storm that hit Louisville
* Celebrating the Olympics
* Going through the loss of my grandfather
* Making "Tuesday Tidbits" a staple in all of our lives
* Moving out on my own into an apartment
* Introducing words like "Beardo" and "Stankafoodaphobia"
* Turning 23 years old
* Taking trips to: Charleston, Asheville, New Orleans and the Beach
* Dealing with a "stalker"
* Making it through one of the most thrilling UofL basketball seasons of all time
* Electing the first ever African American president.
* And who can forget this whole ordeal:
So, to all of you who read my blog and take interest in the thoughts and opinions I share....Thank You! I know I'm a bit ridiculous sometimes and I'm sure I've said things that you don't really agree with. But, I started this blog as a way for me to keep in touch with friends and family who I don't get to see as much as I'd like. As it turns out, this blog has given me a chance to celebrate, complain about and share the many things that have gone into a very pivotal year of my life. I thank you all for letting me be me and I appreciate all of you who read, comment and follow.

Now, though this past year has been a year of change and maturing in my life...the road ahead is sure to be just as exciting. I hope you guys will continue to read and I hope you guys continue to enjoy the craziness that is...The Life of Brian.

We're a whole year old gang! Go celebrate!

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

I had planned on having a special one year anniversary post today...but it'll have to wait.

The reason it will have to wait is that the USA soccer team just pulled off a gigantic upset...beating defending Euro champion Spain 2-0 in the Confederations Cup semi final.

I like soccer, I do...but for the longest time I've had trouble getting into soccer. I get way into the World Cup, but the rest of the time I just feel like a poser. Alot of it has to do with the fact that the MLS is terrible, but it's mostly do to the fact that I like Basketball, Baseball and Football so much better.

However, I still love when the Americans pull off some upset. I can remember in 2002 running around my house at like 4 a.m. after Brian McBride scored to put the USA up 1-0 in the World Cup round of 16. Last world cup I got just as intense. But, as soon as the World Cup is over...it's back to being just a casual fan.

However, after today and a absolutely amazing performance, I think I can stop feeling like such a bandwagon fan. I always root for them when they play...they just don't get the same publicity that College Basketball gets. Also, it's USA's soccer team. It's not like I'm jumping on the Lakers' bandwagon. I'm an American, so I reserve the right to cheer my face off for any team with USA on their jerseys.

Anyway, it was an exciting win and now we get to play Brazil in what you would think would be a blowout...but we just BEAT SPAIN! So who knows?

Tuesday Tidbits...

* I was hoping that the second day back from vacation would be better....but no dice. I'm sluggish and sleepy. Hopefully tomorrow I get back in the swing of things.

* Not only did John and Kate get divorced on last night's "Jon and Kate Plus 8" episode, but TLC announced today that the show will go on hiatus until August. I have two questions about this whole thing. 1.) When did this become the biggest gossip in the nation? I mean it's just two people and their kids. 2.) How can anyone who has watched that show for more then just this season be surprised that they are getting divorced? I mean I watched it quite a bit with Taylor over the last few years and by my judgment Kate believes that Jon is and always has been a terrible, stupid, human being who has never done anything correct in his entire life. Now it is sad that they got divorced and the last few episodes have made Jon look like the bad guy...but I can't really blame him...that woman is the devil.

* Alright, enough Jon and Kate gossip...my head's about to explode. But, since everyone's Mondays are free now due to the Jon and Kate hiatus, I would like to suggest that everyone watch "Run's House" on Monday nights instead. "Run's House" is a reality show about Rev Run (from Run DMC) and his family. Without a doubt...it is my favorite reality show of all time. I really hate reality tv...but I love "Run's House". It's on Mondays at 10 on MTV.

* The Avett Brothers have pushed back the release of their new album "I and Love and You" from August to September. This may seem like boring news to most...but I'm totally bummed.

* However, I do have some good news from the music world! Jim James, M.Ward and Connor Oberst have teamed up to put out an album this September called "Monsters of Folk". I love all three of those guys so to say I'm excited...well that's just not gonna cut it. It's gonna be amazing!

* After work today I get to take on the task of changing the strings on my guitars. I picked up a new set for my acoustic and electric yesterday due to Craig's suggesting. However, I don't really know how to change the strings. He kind of explained, but I'm not really sure. It should be pretty wild though, wish me luck.

* The NBA draft is almost here and it looks as though LoB's two main men will both be going in the lottery on Thursday!
Rumor has it that this guy has a promise from the Bobcats with the #12 pick
and this guy has a promise from the Suns at #14
I'm beyond stoked for T-Will and Earl. They make me proud to be a Cardinal fan. Also they've both been getting a good deal of press lately. Here is a fantastic article written about Earl on ESPN.com (Seriously that is one of the best/most in-depth sports articles I've ever read). Here's an article about T-Will and his workout with the Bobcats and Michael Jordan. Awesome awesome awesome!

* One last thing, Happy Birthday Benjam USalli. He turned 26 three days ago!

That's all the tidbits for today. Come back tomorrow for a pretty big time post!

Back from the Beach...

Hi gang, remember me?

So yeah, vacation was a really great time. Lots of relaxing, some ping pong, some pool time, etc. It was great to get away for a little bit and just take it easy. The weather was nice, but it was a tad cloudy which cut down on our beach time...but that kept me from calling anyone and teasing them about being at work or whatever...so that's good. But yeah, overall it was a great and much needed vacation.

Sadly, I'm back at work now and back to the normal grind. Plus to make matters even worse, Taylor is leaving in like 6 days. Needless to say, I'm not in a fantastic mood today.

So, I promise you a special one year anniversary post sometime this week and a good dose of tidbits tomorrow. But, for now anyway...I'm going to spend the rest of the day readjusting to normal life and enjoying my time with Taylor.

It's good to be back gang...kinda.

I'll be more upbeat tomorrow.

Top 5: Things about Vacation

I'm not going to lie...I'm already on vacation (mentally). So today I thought I'd just give you guys my top 5 favorite things about taking a vacation to the beach.

5. Going to the Grocery.
I love getting checked in to my place of residence for the next week and then heading to the grocery to stock up on all the things that make my tummy smile. Cereal, sandwich fixins, beer, juice, gatorade, Dunkaroos, Gushers, etc. I love to get things that I normally don't buy at home. I'm not sure why...I just do.

4. The Smell
I think the recipe is something like this:

2 parts sun tan lotion
1 part sand
1 part saltwater
a dash of sweat
a twist of lime

I'm not sure if that's exact, but you know what I'm talking about. I like to take the same towel and t-shirt to the beach everyday and make sure that smell gets on them nice and good so I can take it back home with me. Then I sniff my towel and t-shirt for days until the smell is gone...and then I cry.

3. Kadima
Some may call this paddle ball and they would be wrong (paddle ball has a ball attached to a rubberband). Kadima is the 2nd best sport of all time behind Pool volleyball. There's no competition, there aren't rules and the only way to keep score is to see how many times you and your friend(s) can hit it back and forth without it dropping. It's the best!

2. Napping
I love naps anytime...but vacation naps are the best. I like to either sleep under an umbrella at the beach...or I like to nap when i've been out at the beach for a long time and I go home into the air conditioning and take a little snooze until it's time for dinner. If napping were a sport I'd be an all-star. If beach-napping were a sport...I'd be a friggin' first ballot hall of famer.

1.) Day Drinking
It's noon and you've had three beers. You want a margarita? Hell Yes. Do you want to know why you want a margarita? It's because it's vacation and all plans are flexible. To me there are few better feelings then sitting on the beach with an adult beverage and realizing that's it's 11:47 a.m. on a Tuesday. No one tells you to stop because everyone in the whole world is envious of you at that moment. Even Lebron James would probably rather be me on that Tuesday morning...because that's about as relaxed as it comes.

***Sometimes I even like to call people that I know are at work and ask them, "Hey what are you up to?" When they reply that they are working...I giggle and then tell them that I'm drinking a beer on the beach in their honor. It's mean, but it's great...and I'm an a-hole. Also, when you are the person at work and you receive that call...it sucks...a ton...but since you've been on the otherside before...you can appreciate it. Keep your cell phones near!

I'm going to be totally useless from now until I get back from vacation!

Vacation Packing...

When I go on vacation to the beach I like to do nothing.

Actually let me rephrase that...I like to do things, but I like to not HAVE to do anything.

So...with my vacation only 3 days away...it's time for me to make my list of things to pack. Here is what I have so far...let me know if I've missed anything.

Serious Stuff:
basketball shorts
tennis shoes
swim trunks
phone charger

Bathroom Shizz:
Body Wash
shave cream

Beach Towel
Beach Chair
Beach Ball
Pool float ($1 at Target!)
Wiffle Ball and Bat
i-pod Speakers
Books (I put that "s" on there for a laugh)
Magazines (Esquire, ESPN)
Margarita Fixins
Tennis Racquet
Vacation CD mixes

I think that might be it. I'm sure I'll think of another thing or two to add...but for now that's all I've got. The most important thing about this list is the "Vacation CD mixes" usually I make 4 mixes for a beach trip and draw sea creatures on each one (my brother and I started this a few years back...I'm not sure why) I haven't made any of them yet...but Taylor has helped me get started. I'll let you guys know what sea creatures are selected when I make the decisions...I know it's important to you.

Alright gang, it's up to you now to inform me of anything I left off of the list. I trust you won't let me down.

I love vacation!

Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday Tidbits...

You know what to do...

* Remember last Tuesday when I showed you guys the "Beatles Rock Band" video and then all the other tidbits after seemed meaningless? Well the same thing is about to happen this week. The reason...the return of Zack Morris!

I gained a lot of respect for Mark Paul Gosselaar after watching that. The Roots helping play, "Friends Forever" was just icing on the cake. If a Saved By The Bell reunion really does occur...I will be pumped. That show shaped me more then I'd like to admit.

* Hey I bet you guys were wondering what LoB's main man T-Will has been up to...you weren't? Oh well, here's an awesome video of him preparing for the NBA draft with Gary Payton

I love that guy more than I love any other stranger in the world. It's so nice when players come from across the country to play for your team. You get to watch them grow up and become attached to the city as they mature into grownups. T-Will makes me proud to be a UofL fan and he represents everything that is great about college basketball. I dare you to tell me otherwise.

* So I'm still pretty pissed at the Braves, but I do have to give a tip of the cap to the ol' skipper, Bobby Cox.
Yup, Mr. Cox (who represents everything that I love about Baseball) recorded his 2,000 win with the Braves last night. No matter how pissed I get at the Braves, as long as Bobby Cox is on the bench...I'm rooting for them. Congrats and Thanks Mr. Cox.

* Big news from the music world...Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan are teaming up to make an album together. There aren't many details on the project yet, but the idea is very exciting. Oh yeah, they're gonna let Ringo play drums too.

* Lots of talk about whether or not Magic rookie Courtney Lee blew the game by missing a last second alley oop layup the other night in the NBA finals. My take? Oh yeah, he blew it. Was it harder then it looked? Yes. Was time running out? Yes. Is Lee and Rookie? Yes. Was it still a layup? Yes. Is Lee a professional basketball player? Yes. Was it a layup? Yes. Did it cost the Magic the series? Yes. Tough break for the kid, but let's not lie to ourselves...you gotta knock that down.

* Don't forget that tonight is Cumberland Tues....day! $2.75 pints all day long at Cumberland Brews. I'm still trying to decided if it should be called, "Cumberland Tuesday", "Cumberland Tues" or Cumberland Brewsday" Thoughts?

That's about all I've got for today children. Have a nice Tuesday!

Weekend Roundup...

It's Monday...drag.

So my weekend was pretty grand. How was yours?

On Friday Taylor and I hit up the U'Sellis family cookout over at Uncle Scott's for a while (always a good time) and then we headed back to Sherwood Forest for a get together with friends. The little shindig turned out to be a blast. It wasn't a super large crowd of people, but it was a good group and I had a great time. I'm not sure the people who live above us or below us (or beside us) enjoyed it as much...but I think everyone in attendance had a great time.

Saturday started off like a good ol' college Saturday...filled with laying around and watching movies. After watching parts of "Can't Hardly Wait" (classic) and "Live Free or Die Hard" we all realized that we weren't in college anymore and we needed to do something with our day. I opted to go give Francisco a much needed bath.

After bathing my car, Lautaro, Taylor and I headed to the movies to see "The Hangover"...it was hilarious. Totally wrong and inappropriate...but totally hilarious.

*Side Note: While walking in to the movie I saw a really tall dude in front of us and thought, "That looks like George Goode (UofL B-ball player)." Well it wasn't George Goode. However, we were the first ones in the theatre and as we sat there and watched the sold out crowd file in a different tall dude walked in...and it was George Goode. What are the odds? Probably not that exciting for you, but I just thought it was kinda weird.

Anyway, go see "The Hangover"

Yesterday I went over to Mom's and hopped in the pool for the first time this summer. It was pretty cold, but that didn't stop Ben and me from playing a little Pool Volleyball. It really is the best sport of all time...behind wiffle ball and kickball.

So now it's Monday. Monday's are pretty lame, but I'm pretty upbeat today because we leave for the beach on Saturday. Woo-hooo!

Have a good one.

Friday Facts...

Alright...lots going on today/this weekend. Here are 8 facts for ya.

1.) The Cardinal Nine play the first game of their Super Regional against Cal St. Fulerton tonight at 10:30 on ESPN2. The Cards are big underdogs in the series...but I'm not betting against them. Game 2 is Saturday at 5 on ESPN. GO CARDS!

2.) Family cookout and then a little get together going on tonight...it's gonna be the bomb-diggity!

3.) NBA finals started last night with the Lakers beating the living snot out of the Magic. My take on the game? YAAAAAWWWWWWNNN

4.) DMI is on a bad bad losing streak in Thursday night trivia. The first few rounds were not bad last night...but then it all came crashing down. I think a name change might be in the mix. We've got to do something to get the ball rollin' in the right direction again.

5.) I need to give Francisco a bath this weekend. So if you see me...please ask me if I have done it yet. If it's past Saturday and I tell you no...please slap me in the face.

6.) I think this weekend is going to mark the first time I go swimming this summer (watch out ladies!). After the work of putting in the liner in my Mom's pool and getting everything else ready...I think it's time for some pool volleyball (aka the greatest sport of all time).

7.) Tomorrow I am for sure going to see "The Hangover". That movie looks hilarious.

8.) Finally, Paul Simon performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other night and he played, "Late in the Evening" with the Roots. It still blows my mind that the Roots are the house band for Jimmy Fallon...but whatev, it's cool. Here's the performance...I dare you to keep your hips still while groovin' to this jam.

I wanna be friends with ?uestlove. He's awesome.

Have a great weekend all!

Hey Atlanta Braves...Stop Pissing Me Off

I'm on a bit of a baseball kick right now. It's summer, the Cards are still in the tourney, I bought a wiffle ball bat (only $3) and "The Sandlot" (Only $5) at Target last night...it just feels like baseball time....except the Braves apparently hate me.

Now then, when I was younger...from April to October I was obsessed with baseball. I played it, I watched it, I dreamt about it...it was who I was. Also, while I was growing up I followed the Atlanta Braves. I watched their games on TBS all the time and I knew the entire roster by heart. As I've gotten older I've followed the Braves less and less each year, but I still cheer for them because I've been a Braves fan for as long as I can remember. I loved all the players Dave Justice, Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Ron Gant, Mark Lemke, Javy Lopez, Andruw Jones, Greg Maddux, Jeff Blauser, Terry Pendelton, etc. While Dave Justice and Chipper were always my favorite players, the two players on the Braves that I always respected the most were Tom Glavine and John Smoltz. They were to the Braves what Ernie Banks was to the Cubs and Mickey Mantle was to the Yankees. They were the glue to the team. The veterans.

Anyway, I'm off track here. The reason I'm talking about the Braves today is because they've just about pissed me off to the point where I'm gonna find a new team...here's why. They are getting rid of all the people who actually give a damn about the braves.

When the Braves traded Dave Justice I cried, when they let Greg Maddux go I was a little upset, but it was not too bad. Next Javy Lopez was gone, soon they did they unthinkable and traded away Tom Glavine. Yeah, this good lookin' son of a gun:
Worst of all...they traded him to the Mets. Ugh! That was bad, but we still had Smoltzy and Chipper so I was able to stay attached to the team in some way. Well, soon Smoltz got hurt and then Andruw Jones got the axe too. It was pretty much just Chipper the last few years. I like Chipper, but I miss my old guys.

So yeah, the past few years have been a bit of a bummer as I try to get to know the new set of Braves players. However, this off season I was greeted with some great news! Smoltz looked to be pretty healthy and the Braves were bringing back Tom Glavine! Woo-hoo, these guys are past their prime but they CARE about the Braves and they are still damn fine pitchers. Hell, just having them around might help the younger guys learn about the Braves tradition. However, my happiness was short lived. The Braves refused to re-sign Smoltz (for a measly a tiny amount of cash) and now after Tom Glavine threw 6 scoreless innings in a minor league rehab start the other night...they released him just as he was set to rejoin the club. You know why they did? They say performance...but it was money. It always is...and it sucks.

So instead they called up a minor league pitcher and traded away three great prospects for a crummy outfielder from Pittsburgh. Apparently the Braves made this move to show that there is a new way of life in the Braves organization and it starts with youth. Will here is a little tip for the GM. If you want to grow as a young team, maybe you should hang on to all of your young players throughout the years when they start showing promise (I'm looking at you Jermaine Dye, Mark DeRosa, Jerrod Saltalamachia, Brian Giles, etc.) and stop keeping the crappy "young guys" (Jeff Francour) and stop trading the good young guys for lazy "all-stars" who don't give a crap about the Braves (Mark Texiera, J.D. Drew). Enough is enough.

Sigh, this is about as long and ramble heavy as I can get. If you didn't understand anything of what I just said, I'm sorry...Here's the Spark notes: I used to be a huge Braves fan until they decided to get rid off all my favorite players. Then they signed Tom Glavine again, but traded John Smoltz. Then they let Glavine go. Now I am pretty friggin' pissed at the Braves.

I guess the only thing to do is this...Go Braves! Chop to the Top!

I'm still a fan, a sad...hurt...loyal fan!

Plus, at least I'm not a Cubs fan.

Steve Martin

Steve Martin was on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night and as I sat there watching him I thought to myself, "That guy is awesome."

He was on the show to promote his new bluegrass CD and he played a little number with Paul Simon. First of all, Paul Simon is an awesome guy...but he's out there. Second of all, Steve Martin is really incredible on the banjo. I knew he was good, but holy crap!

Anyway, as he sat there making fun of Jimmy Fallon in a very polite way I started to think of all my favorite Steve Martin movies. The Jerk, Three Amigos, Father of the Bride, etc. Then I started to think...I would like to be friends with Steve Martin.

I love to play those hypothetical games like, "If you could have dinner with any 4 people, who would they be?" Usually I pick Paul McCartney and the other three are just kind of rotate between the likes of...Rick Pitino, Tom Brady, Bill Murray, George Clooney, Barack Obama, Conan O'Brien, Paul Rudd, etc. However, last night I made the official decision that Steve Martin would be cemented on the list and sit right next to Paul McCartney at my dinner table.

I've always thought Steve Martin was just as hilarious as they come, plus he's clearly got some music potential...so he has always been one of my favorites. However, the thing that reserved himself a seat is the fact that he just seems like a normal dude. He's never dressed too fancy, he's never rude to people, he's funny, polite and he's always smiling. I mean seriously...who doesn't like Steve Martin?

I could go on and on about why I like Steve Martin...but I think it would be redundant (just like this entire post) so I'll just end it by saying...Congrats to Steve Martin, the only person besides Paul McCartney to ever land himself a permanent seat at my imaginary dinner table for 5.

Here's a funny little song called, "Late for School" off of Mr. Martin's new CD

Tuesday Tidbits...

* So I saw something today and it was so awesome I thought about just having one tidbit today and being done. I mean after seeing this any other tidbit is just going to seem silly. But anyway here you go...it's the official Beatles Rock Band Trailer:

I mean seriously...how sweet does that look? I haven't been this excited about a video game since...ever. The Cavern Club, The Ed Sullivan Show, Shea Stadium, The Rooftop Concert. I think it's safe to say that when this game comes out on 09-09-09 I won't be doing a whole lot else. Words can't express how much I'm geeking out.

*Last night a bunch of us went out to Jim Patterson Stadium to root on the Cards as they tried to take down Vandy and advance to their 2nd Super Regional in three years. It started off shaky, but timely hitting, great pitching and tremendous fielding led to a Cards win...and a big man pile!
They'll play powerhouse Cal St. Fullerton in a three game series starting Friday. The winner advances to Omaha and the College World Series. GO CARDS!

* As a result of the game last night, my voice is pretty scratchy this morning and my throat is killing me. I knew my voice was getting raw after Sunday's game, so on Monday I had tried to keep my talking to a minimum in hopes of saving some screams for C-A-R-D-S chants and yelling at the terrible umpires. I was doing great yesterday until I was driving to my guitar lesson and the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" came on the radio. I couldn't resist...I cranked it and sang at the top of my lungs, how could I not? It's a jam. Anyway, I was still able to yell quite a bit at the game, but every once in a while my voice would crack in the middle of a, "YOU'RE AN IDIOT BLUE, HAVE YOu eVEr eVen SEEN A BASEBALL GAME BEFORE!?!?" Luckily everyone looked around for the unfortunate Cardinal fan going through puberty...and I have a pretty full beard...so I think people might have thought it was someone else. I'm a loser.

* I have to do something now that's never been done on this blog...ever. Alright, (deep breath)...I have to give a wag of the finger at Lebron James. So apparently after the Cavs got bounced from the playoffs the other night...Lebron didn't shake the Magic players' hands, talk to the media or talk that much to his team. He came out the next day and said he's a winner and that's why he didn't shake anyone's hand...but he did send an e-mail to Dwight Howard...and he is just so competitive and he is just so blah blah blah bologna. Michael Jordan always shook the winners' hands when he lost...because it's part of the game. Everyone gets beat. Just because you are super competitive and a "winner" doesn't mean you can be super cocky and confident all year and then go pout when you lose. I'm glad he was pissed...he should have been. But you always shake the other team's hand...always always always. It's like the first rule of sports. Now hopefully Lebron will learn from his mistake...before he ends up like Kobe....because Kobe sucks.

* So there's this new movie coming out that looks pretty good called, "Funny People". It stars funny people: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman. The movie comes out like July 31st I think, but Director Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin) has already come up with a weird way to promote the movie. Apparently, Apatow has created a fake TV show called "Yo Teach!" starring Schwartzman. It's not super fake, because there is a website on NBC.com talking about the show and there are two video sneak peaks about it...but in the end, it's totally fake and it's supposed to help the movie somehow. Kind of creative, kind of funny, really weird. Here are the videos though:

Pretty bizarre.

* Alright Kiddos, that's all the time we have for today. I'll try to do better tomorrow. Enjoy your Tuesday!

10 Cool Things about Today...

So I had a blast this weekend...here are 10 important things from the weekend and today.

1.) Daniel and Jessica's wedding was on Saturday and it was a blasty blast! See:
There were tons of Centre folk at the wedding and it was an all around great time. Congrats to Jessica and Daniel.

2.) Also congrats to Drew and Breanna...they also got married on Saturday! Tis this season.

3.) Today is my little step-sister Lauren's birthday. Happy Birthday Lauren...the fact that you're 14 makes me feel about 50 years old.

4.) I read somewhere over the weekend that there is a new Guitar Hero game coming out and it features a lot of cool bands, including...My Morning Jacket! Byahh!

5.) The Cardinal Nine play Vandy in the regional championship tonight. I went to two of the games over the weekend and had a great time. I'll be heading out there again tonight and I'm hoping for a much better performance from the Cards compared to last night. GO CARDS!

6.) Otis, Taylor's cat, is getting better! He does have kidney disease, but with proper medicine and care he should be able to live a pretty normal life. He's not back to 100% just yet, but he's getting there.

7.) I was hoping for a Nuggets vs. Cavs NBA finals. Of course it's the Lakers and the Magic. I guess I'll cheer for the Magic, but only because my hate for Stan Van Gundy is just slightly less than my hate for Kobe.

8.) Speaking of the NBA...check out these two fine young men as they prepare for the Draft later this month.
Mr. T-Will

Mr. Earl

I miss them...it's official.

9.) Conan O'Brien makes his "Tonight Show" debut tonight on NBC. I think Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam are on the show. Note: There are no words to express how happy I am that he is taking over for Jay Leno...I can't stand Jay Leno.

10.) Since Taylor has been home and the summer has kicked off I feel like my life has been a non-stop tornado of activity. There always seems to be something going on and something else that I could be doing. While I do feel a bit warn down sometimes, I love it. It's wonderful having her home and it's been great to see a lot of friends and family in recent weeks that I haven't seen in a while. Hooray Summer!

Enjoy your Mondays! GO CARDS!
